Maria Sautter is our Middletown, DE recipient for the Campaign for Better Hearing Give Back Program. Maria has had hearing difficulties since she was fifteen, living on a small island off eastern Malaysia, where there were no audiologists. Since her previous appointment in 2016, her hearing has diminished further. Although premium-level hearing aids were recommended to her, unfortunately, her insurance does not pay towards the devices. Maria is a single mom with two teenagers, and works hard as a behavioral/academic interventionist at a middle school to ensure they both can eventually go to college. However, this doesn’t leave much money for her own healthcare. New hearing aids would allow her to be more present both with her own children and those she works with daily. The Middletown, DE office decided she is a perfect fit for some brand-new hearing aids, free of charge through the Campaign for Better Hearing Give Back Program.
Maria is fluent in eight languages and is a self-taught English speaker. Many of her family members also suffer from hearing loss. After receiving her new hearing aids, she has become adamant about making sure they get their hearing tested. In the two weeks since receiving her new hearing aids, she says she is hearing things she has never heard before, such as footsteps and pens on paper. Her new devices have made her more confident in her work and allowed her to be better connected with her children.
Congratulations, Maria!
