Paul LaPlant – Shawano, WI

Meet Paul LaPlant

As a father of four and outdoorsman, Paul LaPlant has a full life. However, major health issues have left him unable to work and his hearing has declined significantly, impacting his overall well-being. Paul missed hearing his wife’s voice. He longed to hear the nuances of his children’s laughter, the sounds of leaves crackling in the fall and music.

Paul shares his story

“I have done many things in my life. After high school, I went to college and then joined the military, where I was a Ranger and Scout Sniper. I learned to be a motorcycle technician. I built homes and cabinets and eventually went to truck driving school to earn my CDL.” He felt like he had it all. Then, “In 2021, I had a massive stroke, and all the things I could do before, I no longer could.”

Workplace exposure can lead to hearing loss

There are many causes of hearing loss. It’s hard to say whether Paul’s hearing loss was caused by workplace exposure in the military, riding motorcycles or in construction, or even by his stroke. Nevertheless, hearing loss has impacted his family life and made it harder for him to do the things he loves, including watching TV with his wife.

Hearing aids are life-changing!

“Until Josh Kilmer [hearing care provider with HearingLife in Shawano, Wisconsin] put hearing aids in my ears, I didn’t realize how bad my hearing was. I am so happy I can finally hear again.” Congratulations, Paul!
